Mission Statement

There are NO Healthy Babies without (First) Healthy Mamas!

Urban Midwifery is on a mission:
To Address and Improve the disproportionately high infant mortality rates in the Black Community, by addressing the health and mental wellbeing of the mama!
And,
To end the normalization of the 'Baby Mama'

The Hand that Rocks the Cradle Rules the World!

Urban Midwifery understands that by improving the lives of women directly, we are improving the infant mortality rates indirectly. There is no separation between the health of mama and baby.

We believe that Black Women can have healthy babies, when they first become healthy mamas.

Urban Midwifery will achieve its mission by addressing psycho-social issues that are acting as obstacles to healthy mamas. Urban Midwifery offers culturally competent midwifery services, workshops, educational books and guides, access to our store that offers donated clothing and items for pregnancy and parenting, and counseling services.

Urban Midwifery, Inc. is committed to providing all women the option of homebirth, regardless of their ability to pay.

Vision

Urban Midwifery envisions a world where all babies have an equal opportunity at survival. Where most pregnancies are planned and being a 'Baby Mama' is not permitted nor accepted. A world, where men and women are encouraged to marry, and then supported in their marriage.

Urban Midwifery envisions of world where all women are provided with culturally competent care. A world where healthcare disparities do not exist, and women are given the same level of quality healthcare regardless of their socio-economic status.

Urban Midwifery envisions a world where all women have the option of homebirth, regardless of their socio-economic conditions.

Until that day, Urban Midwifery is committed to working with women and their families, particularly Black Women and Families, to provide them with an equal chance at a healthy baby.
