It's All About Self-Improvement!
Every workshop offered by Urban Midwifery, Inc. has the primary goal and focus on improving the overall life of the participant. Whether we are discussing prenatal care, parenting, sex-education, or other topics, we believe that the initial work is with the individual, and improving her (or his) life.
Workshop 1: (6 hour workshop)
The End of Baby Mama Drama, The beginning of a healthy pregnancy
This workshop is intended for pregnant women who are not married, and may, or may not be in relationships with the fathers of their babies. This workshop is also appropriate for high school girls, and young women. This workshop focuses on preventing preterm birth, improving your physical and mental health in your current pregnancy, helping women to reach our full potential (as women), and preparing for the role of mama. Heavy emphasis is put on healthy relationships and making responsible choices. The workshop addresses psycho-social obstacles that are contributing to high stress levels in women, and ultimately sick mamas and poor perinatal outcomes.
The workshops addresses:
- Knowing our value as women
- The Science of Mating
- Promiscuity
- Education for the future
- The importance of Prenatal Care & Breastfeeding
Workshop 2: (6 hour workshop for mamas of teenaged daughters)
The Birds & The Bees
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage...
Remember not too long ago, when we learned about sex in this order... First comes love.
Today, it just doesn't seem so simple. In fact, I can't remember the last time I talked to a young woman, or her mother about sex, and the word love was even mentioned.
Things have drastically changed in the world, in a short time. Our girls are learning acceptable behaviors from the internet, television, rap music lyrics, and dysfunctional family relationships. As adults we know that that this is not acceptable, but we don't know what to do about it. It is becoming more and more difficult to know where to start and what to address in our conversations with our daughters about sex.
This workshop will help mamas to begin their "The Birds & The Bees" conversation with their daughters.
